Learn more about the new manager by checking out the Dodgers manager page now! (2/13/08) February 13, 2008 - Los Angeles - It was announced earlier Tuesday that pinch-hitting Mark Sweeney agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last season pro baseball player led the league with 24 pinch hits. In total, he accumulated 23 hits (eight doubles and two home runs). His record takes a backseat to Lenny Harris. See Mark Sweeney improve on his .260 career batting average when the Dodgers resume spring training this week in Florida. (2/13/08) February 13, 2008 - This season, fans can expect to see some new changes take place withing the Dodgers team. Aside from a change-up at the manager level, many positions have changed for the better. Olmedo Saenz, the primary right-handed pinch hitter, signed with the Mets recently, alloweing Mark Sweeny to make his mark once again and steal the spotlight. Back up catch Mike Lieberthal retired while infielders WIlson Valdez and Shea Hillenbrand are also off the team. There is still no word on utility infielder, Ramon Martinez, and his status with the team. Unfortunately, the bench has been impacted the most prior to the start of the 2008 season. Most of the players will consist of young athletes or veterans. Many talented positon holders could lose their spots to newcomers such as Tony Abreu or Chin-Lung Hu. Currently, Nomar Garciaparra is in a heated battle with Andy LaRoche for the role of starting first baseman. Good news: the Dodgers will likely keep the talents of Pierre or Andre Ethier on the bench depending on which one starts. The Dodgers also signed Gary Bennett to replace Lieberthal. Jason Repko, who is still recovering after suffering an injury last spring as well as a stress fracture of the ankle, is trying to get his career back on track. When asked about his health condition, he stated that he is completely healthy. (2/13/08) Copyright © 2008 by Los Angeles Dodgers Tickets. All rights reserved |
